| Cathartes Donates $100,000 to Somerville's
Technology Program |
Boston, MA (November 9, 2000) - Cathartes Investments, a
Boston-based real estate developer, donated $100,000 to a technology initiative
for the City of Somerville and Somerville High School. Earmarked for a Web Lab
and web development training for students and teachers, new infrastructure, and
web site development for the City, this gesture serves as a thank you to
Somerville for facilitating several technology-based real estate development
projects in the area.
Working in collaboration with city officials and
business leaders over the last year, Cathartes received approvals and permits
to develop two state-of-the-art telecom office buildings on Somervilles Inner
Belt Road - an area quickly attracting technology-based businesses. Now,
Cathartes seeks to make a civic contribution that will train Somerville
students in the practical uses and applications of technology and teach them
highly marketable skills.
Robert Maloney, Managing Director at
Cathartes Investments stated, "The City of Somerville has been a cooperative
partner in our efforts to respond to the increased demand for high-tech office
space in the Boston area.
We think it only fitting to give something
back to the community that promotes technology in a purposeful way." Maloney
continued, "Half of our donation will be spent on the high schools technology
program through initiatives such as improving connectivity, creating a Web Lab
and launching web development training for students and teachers. The other
$50,000 will be set aside for web site development for the City of Somerville."
Cathartes announced the $100,000 donation and presented a check to
Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay on Wednesday evening, November 8, 2000, at
Somervilles 54th Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner at the Holiday Inn on
Washington Street.
Cathartes Investments is a private Boston-based real
estate development and investment company specializing in the acquisition,
development and management of commercial, industrial and multi-family
